Guys’ Night Out at Applewood

Guys’ Night Out Launched at Applewood

Sometimes, it’s nice to just hang out with the guys (for the men and the women in their lives!) Earlier this year, a few residents informally launched a Men’s Club, which quickly grew into one of the most popular groups at Applewood.

Meetings are held on the last Tuesday of the month at 7 pm. To date, the club has already hosted several interesting speakers, including Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden and Freehold Township Committeewoman Barbara McMorrow. Freehold Borough Mayor Nolan Higgins also presented a fascinating discussion about the remarkable evolution of the 148-year-old town.

The group has also hit the road to visit several sites of interest.

The Perfect Backdrop for Sharing Your Passion

“Applewood is perfectly suited to starting new interest clubs or groups,” explains Wanda Garrin, Engaged Living coordinator. “We have plenty of meeting room space, AV, if needed, and our own private transportation.” Wanda says groups can also order boxed lunches from Dining Services to bring along on road trips.

“Residents here at Applewood are amazingly talented and have taken the initiative to launch several new organizations, including calligraphy, foreign language instruction and non-denominational Bible study,” she says. “Seniors can choose from more than 30 diverse clubs to pursue, ranging from art and music to community service and current event discussions.”

The Men’s Club has already used Applewood’s private coach transportation to tour the Monmouth County Jail and the Yogi Berra Museum in Little Falls.

“We have men who are married, never-married, divorced and widowed,” says one of the club’s founders. “The Men’s Club is growing every month and we hope more guys will join us. We enjoy getting together and it’s a great way to meet people!”
