What’s new at Applewood?

New Outdoor Amenities Construction Begins

Now that Phase 1 of our interior redesign is well underway, it’s time to add some exciting new amenities outside!

Earlier this week, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to start construction and installation of our new outdoor recreation area.

New sporting amenities, which will be located just outside our indoor pool, will include:

  • Bocce court with benches
  • 1,000-square-foot putting green
  • Croquet court
  • Shuffleboard court
  • Shaded pergola with benches

“As a longtime six-wicket croquet player, so I’m thrilled we’re going to have our own court,” says Virginia Allen, president of the Residents Association. “We already have a good number of people interested in learning to play and eventually we’ll be able to compete against other area croquet teams.”

Once the installation is completed, a walking trail will be constructed where residents can chart their progress using distance markers located along the path. A new memorial garden will also be planted to offer visitors a place to sit, relax and enjoy the surrounding scenery.

“These new amenities support the community’s ‘Engaged Living’ philosophy which offers tools and resources for residents to enjoy all facets of this beautiful campus, including the outdoors,” says Thomas W. Scott, FACHE, FABC, chief operating officer, CentraState Healthcare System, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
