Applewood is Revamped, Renewed and Reinvigorated for the Future

By Keith Grady Executive Director

Residents and staff successfully partnered again in 2017 to introduce community-wide enhancements to meet the interests of our seniors.

From new resident-managed clubs and day-trip destinations to a top-to-bottom community dining room redesign, it’s been an invigorating year.

Formal Dining Room – A Floor-to-Ceiling Redesign

A year ago, we redecorated the lobby, community center and promenade with a more contemporary theme which carries through to the furnishings, wall finishes, lighting, artwork and carpets.

This year, we continued this casual elegance theme into our dining room. The update offers residents and their guests the perfect atmosphere to enjoy their daily dining experience.

‘Casual Elegance’ Extends to Updated Cottages and Apartments

We had a wonderful time renovating our cottages and apartment-style homes before new residents moved in.

Upgrades feature open floor plans, new stainless steel appliances, granite or quartz countertops, custom closets and updated flooring, lighting and ceramic tile.

By Popular Demand – New 2B/2BA Apartment Floor Plan

In response to interest in larger and more open apartment layouts, we introduced the new Sequoia (2BR/2BA) apartment design, now one of our largest apartments, to create 1,400 square feet of luxurious living space to call home.

Engaged Living™ Coordinator Expands Social Programming

In early 2017, experienced senior lifestyle professional Wanda Garrin joined our Resident Services team.

“I immediately realized Applewood residents are active, educated and intellectually curious,” Wanda explains. “To meet these interests, we added another level of programming to satisfy and challenge them.”

‘Actively participating in shaping your environment’ is the mantra of Applewood. Our residents are sharing their talents and hobbies with the rest of the community. This is evidenced by the newly-created Men’s Club, Calligraphy Instruction, Bridge Club and Bible Study groups.

Engaged Living™ Lifestyle Programs Expand Again

 Ramping Up Connectivity in 2018

Today, most residents have an understanding of the benefits of computers and handheld devices. But knowing how to email photos, order from Amazon and banking online can be somewhat tricky.

To assist, Applewood engaged the services of Tracie the Tech, who works one-on-one with residents to help them navigate the Internet and reap the benefits of the digital age.

Coming in 2018:

Upgraded Wi-Fi network

will offer faster Internet speed and connectivity.

The Best is Yet to Come

By no means will we rest on the successes of the past year, which include the Federal Government’s five-star rating of our Healthcare Center by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

As we continue to welcome new residents, we continue to strive for excellence in maintaining Applewood as New Jersey’s premier continuing care retirement community (CCRC).

On behalf of the entire Applewood team, with support from the CentraState Healthcare System, we thank the residents who have shared their ideas, opinions and feedback with us.

Through this relationship of trust and mutual respect, there will be no stopping us in 2018 and beyond.
