Applewood is honored to be home to more than 30 veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

On Memorial Day, we honored all those Americans who sacrificed their lives fighting for our country. The ceremony included residents and volunteers from the Color Guard of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, NWS Earle Division.

Ray Vargas, director of operations, who acted a Color Guard volunteer instructor for several years, and resident Ginny Allen, coordinated the event.

“Memorial Day is a solemn day to commemorate military personnel who died protecting our great country,” Ray says. “It’s an honor for me to work with so many residents who served in the Armed Forces.”

Veterans Don Robertshaw and Richard Genthner gave moving speeches about the sacrifices so many soldiers have made for our freedom.

A Missing Man Table commemorated the physical acknowledgment of fallen, missing, or imprisoned military service-members.

The special event concluded with a formal laying of the wreath at our community flag pole.
