Employee Spotlight – Martha Minda, Housekeeping Supervisor

Martha Minda

Housekeeping Supervisor

There are certain aspects of daily life that just make you feel better – a refreshing bath or shower, the scent of freshly laundered clothing, a nicely scented room—and a clean home.

Applewood Housekeeping Supervisor Martha Minda knows a thing or two about creating clean, sanitary and organized spaces. She has been part of the Housekeeping Department staff for 15 years, starting as an entry-level housekeeper in 2003.

Today, she supervises the department and is responsible for housekeeping and laundry services for 303 independent living residences, 40 assisted living apartments and a combination of 32 private and semi-private skilled nursing rooms.

Her team also cleans and maintains all the public spaces in the community, including fitness center, indoor pool and spa, art studio, library, performing arts center, two restaurant-style dining rooms, conference rooms, business center and in-house convenience store.

Managing a Team of 20 Housekeeping Professionals

We have a friendly staff of 20 Applewood employed housekeepers and porters, including a team who cleans every independent resident’s home twice per month,” says Martha.

Applewood provides daily, weekly and semi-monthly housekeeping services, depending on the level of care. Weekly linen and towel service is also provided and personal laundry service is available for a nominal fee, if desired.

Martha says her team uses germ-killing solutions throughout each home and is careful not to disturb home décor and personal items.

A Personal Greeting to New Residents

After new residents settle-in, Martha pays a welcome visit to talk about her department’s services and answer questions. They also receive printed materials that explain home housekeeping, personal linen services and other helpful information to have on hand.

New residents are thrilled when they realize

they no longer need to cook or clean every day,”

Martha says with a laugh.

“They tell me they feel like they’re on

a permanent vacation!”
