Applewood to Host Bike Drive Saturday, November 13

Bikes will be refurbished and resold at the Bike Exchange with proceeds donated to the Boys & Girls Club

Applewood continuously strives to support our local community through community service endeavors relevant to our residents and staff. In partnership with resident Spencer Halper, we will host a bicycle donation event to raise funds for the Boys & Girls Club and also help to provide a larger inventory of affordable bikes for all New Jerseyans.

Spencer Halper

An accomplished distance cyclist, Spencer is a longtime supporter of the Bike Exchange, a Ewing-based resale shop where volunteers refurbish and resell bicycles at reasonable prices. Over the past 10 years, the Bike Exchange has donated 100 percent of its proceeds to the Boys & Girls Club of Mercer County, totaling nearly $1.5 million.

“A high percentage of Bike Exchange volunteers come from my biking club, the Princeton Free Wheelers,” Spencer explains. “During these troubled times, that also includes a bicycle shortage, we hope hundreds of bikes will be donated.”

Halper says the refurbished bikes are sold at reasonable prices, helping every child and adult to have access to this form of recreation, exercise and transportation.

Bike donation details

  • Bicycles of any style, size or condition are accepted.
  • Tax-deductible certificates will be provided for each bike donated.
  • Volunteers will transport donations to the Bike Exchange for servicing, repair and cleaning.
  • Bikes which cannot be resold will be used for parts, so any donation will be utilized.
