Freehold is sometimes referred to as the “largest little city” in NJ.

You will find Applewood in Freehold, a borough and the county seat of Monmouth County, New Jersey. Known for being the hometown of Bruce Springsteen, Victorian era homes and rich colonial history, Freehold is located in the Raritan Valley region within the New York Metropolitan Area, approximately 33 miles from Manhattan and 17 miles from Staten Island.

Incorporated in 1869, Freehold has a vibrant downtown with dozens of eateries, bars, boutiques, art galleries and historical sites. You will also find the nation’s oldest half-mile harness racing track, Freehold Raceway, where horse lovers of all ages get an opportunity to see harness racing.

Freehold also boasts a wide array of natural spaces, including Monmouth Battlefield State Park, Turkey Swamp Park, and Lake Topanemus, providing assorted outdoor recreational opportunities.

NJ Transit bus service connects Freehold with communities along U.S. Route 9, Newark Liberty International Airport and New York City, to Philadelphia and to Six Flags Great Adventure located in Jackson Township.
