Memorial Day observed at Applewood

On Memorial Day, the community came together to honor those who served and lost their lives defending our freedom. Ray Vargas, director of operations, and resident Ginny Allen coordinated the event.

“Applewood is home to many people who lost loved ones serving our country, says Ray. “We are also honored to have many residents, men and women, who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.”

Residents Jim Boylan, Doris Cooley, Albert Lyter, Harry Mayo, Sylvia Schwartz and Joel Stern participated in the ceremony featuring the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

Resident Reverend Bill Bausch gave a moving prayer and Helen Kho sang a spectacular rendition of the National Anthem.

A Missing Man Table commemorated the physical acknowledgment of fallen, missing, or imprisoned military service-members.

The special event concluded with a formal laying of the wreath at our community flagpole.
