Resident Favorite Family Recipes Featured on Applewood’s Luncheon Menu
Living at Applewood shouldn’t just feel like home—it is home. And what better way to share that feeling than by enjoying your favorite family foods with friends and neighbors? Residents are invited to share their tried-and-true family favorite recipes. The Dining Services team chooses winners and prepares the dishes for the entire community to try.
Grace and Don Jenis shared her father’s flavorful legacy– Ciro’s Italian-style hot dog. “This is the only thing my father ever cooked,” Grace recalls. “I was one of eight children growing up in Brooklyn. For decades, he made a huge pot of hot dogs every Saturday for our entire family, no matter what. Everyone loved them!”
Ciro’s Italian-Style Hot Dog
- Simmer hot dogs in homemade pasta sauce
- Soften red and green bell peppers and onions in a skillet
- Slice fresh tomatoes and layer generously on an Italian roll
- Add the hot dog and sauce
- Top with pepper and onion mixture
- Enjoy!
