Applewood’s Senior Living Reputation Opens The Door to a New Home

Living here in Monmouth County, Marcel Legrand heard about Applewood from colleagues whose parents found a new home in a Freehold, New Jersey, continuing care retirement community.

When his parents were looking for a new home for the next chapter of their life, Marcel and his family did their due diligence by shopping around and considering Applewood along with a few other senior living communities before finalizing the decision that Applewood was the perfect fit for his mom and dad.

“At the end of the day, they had the reputation that preceded everything,” Legrand says of Applewood.

Legrand has been through the kind of journey many families experience while looking for just the right senior living community for their parents. He suggests getting an early jump on that process and exploring options.

Applewood checked all the boxes

Legrand recalls how his mother worked the night shift as a nurse, so she could take care of him and his sister growing up. That was one example of the kind of sacrifices he says his parents made for their family. So, when it came time to find a new home for his mom and dad, Legrand sought a supportive community for his parents. And they found it at Applewood.

“As you have parents that get a little bit older, you want to make sure that you return the favor,” Legrand says.

Applewood “checked the box” in providing a community where his parents could pursue the activities they already enjoyed while providing resources to support them, such as the 24-hour fitness and indoor aquatics center here on campus that has a heated 75-foot Junior Olympic pool. Applewood also offers easy access to his parents’ doctors and added peace of mind knowing they are just seconds away from CentraState Medical Center that offers a wide range of healthcare services.

His parents chose the paint, carpeting and other finishes for their apartment, which has amenities offering the comforts of home.

Legrand says Applewood opened the door to his parents meeting new friends, getting access to resources (and plenty of concerts), intellectual stimulation and more time with Legrand, who lives nearby. Legrand enjoys stopping by to visit his parents and meet their neighbors.

“The ethos at Applewood has always been about living your best life. And in my parents’ situation, it was just the continuity of that,” Legrand says. “It’s not about a new life. It’s about experiencing the things that you love, tuning those up and then having the resources and support at the healthcare level.”
