Applewood Celebrates Active Aging Week 2018

Active Aging Week, sponsored by the International Council on Active Aging, takes place each year during the last week of September.

The global week-long campaign celebrates the positivity of aging today.

The event debunks society’s diminished expectations of aging by showing that regardless of age or health challenges, adults over 50 can enjoy vivacious and fulfilling lives through the pursuit of physical, social, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, vocational and environmental educational opportunities.

All week long, Applewood is commemorating this event by offering a special menu of activities designed exclusively to meet the needs and interests of our residents.

“Being older means you finally have the precious commodity of time to pursue new opportunities to feed the soul and stimulate the mind,” says Wanda Garrin, Engaged Living™ coordinator.

“Active Aging Week also focuses on wellness and finding fun and satisfying ways to ward off injury and disease.”

* Healthy Pop-Ups – Dining Services will pop-up with tasty and healthy new menu offerings to sample

* Fall Prevention lecture and personalized fall risk assessments

* Guest Lecture Series: Agatha Christie, Women’s Rights, Climate Change, From Fiber to Fabric

* Fitness Can Be Fun – Outdoor social walk in Colts Neck, Ageless Grace Brain Fitness, Movin’ and Groovin’ Relaxation and Music

* How to Taste Wine – Learn how to sample new wines, decipher flavors and discover new favorite brands.

* Name That Tune – Residents love a good game show theme. This one is a doozy!
