Applewood Celebrates Faith and Spiritual Diversity

One of the many benefits of being geographically situated between New York City and Philadelphia is the rich cultural diversity of people who call Applewood home. We make a special effort to celebrate all of these differences.

To support the faith-based aspect of our exclusive Engaged Living™ program, which inspires body, mind and spirit enrichment, we offer a variety of religious services, talks and special events on the Applewood campus.

Last week, Rabbi Ellie Shemtov of Congregation Kol Am of Freehold hosted a Shavuot service, which honors the grain harvest of the early summer and giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. Shabbat Services are also offered on the first Friday of the month and Rabbi Ron holds a monthly educational Jewish service.

The management team at Applewood strongly supports

the value of opening our hearts and minds

to differences and celebrating what makes us unique.

In addition, Applewood resident and retired Roman Catholic priest, Father Bill Bausch, leads a regular Catholic Mass; Communion services are hosted by Deacon Henry of the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine in Freehold. Resident volunteers also facilitate a twice-monthly Rosary.

An Interfaith Service is held on Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. for all residents and their guests.

Former global missionaries, Jan and Bill Scheerer, host a non-sectarian weekly Bible study group, open to all residents practicing any (or no) faith-based religion.

Faith Dialogue Forum Promotes Understanding and Tolerance

We also facilitated an on-site Faith Dialogue Forum where members of local Catholic, Jewish, Muslim and Protestant faiths discussed how to heal old wounds and collectively move toward improved tolerance and appreciation for other people’s values and religious beliefs.

The Faith Dialogue Forum was part of the Lifelong Learning program, a component of the Engaged Living™.

“Spirituality plays an important role in many seniors’ lives,

and we are steadfastly committed to providing

the convenience of on-campus access to all religious services.”
